About

I'm a hardware & software designer, blogger & a hobby artist. I work at Urban Company as SVP of Native & Design. I was heading design and product analytics at Cuddle.ai (now, Crux Intelligence) and worked at Fab.com, FusionCharts. I also founded a couple start-ups in the past. Kria Interactive (2011) & Intelligent Interfaces (2016). This website is a repository of my thoughts on hardware building, product design, team building, frameworks & life.

The word "godgeez" doesn't mean anything. It’s a gaming alias I created in 2003 and never changed.

Career

After finishing engineering, I didn't find typical IT jobs appealing. Instead, I pursued building beautiful and interactive websites. I started as a PHP developer and eventually became the creative head at zozolo.com. After six months, I left and founded Kria Interactive, a design agency that worked with big brands like Gulf Oil and Subway and many more building mobile games, large-scale software, websites, and branding.

However, I soon realised that I wanted to be iterative instead of just creating one-off websites. My exposure to the role of UX Designer on LinkedIn led me to Fab.com, a digital product company that taught me a lot about collaboration and culture. From there, I accidentally discovered my love for data visualization during a meeting with the founder of FusionCharts. I worked there for a year before moving on to other companies like Housing, Cuddle.ai/Crux Intelligence, and Urban Company to head their design teams.

Today, I head hardware products at Native with strong focus on R&D, industrial design, design engineering, and users. In the last 15 years, I have transitioned from a software developer to software designer to building consumer appliances.

Bengaluru

Urban Company & Native

SVP, Native & Design

Came back because the job felt unfinished. What started as fixing the messiness of a services marketplace slowly drifted into hardware, where I now spend most of my time sketching, engineering, and building Native’s first products.

2018 — 2020

Mumbai

Cuddle.ai/ Fractal Analytics

Head of Design & Data Visualisation

Worked on the odd idea of making enterprise data feel like Google search. We tried to remove jargon, make answers immediate, and see how far design could stretch to make BI usable by people who weren’t analysts.

Urban Company

VP, Design

My first run here was pure zero-to-one. We were figuring out how to make on-demand services work in India when even the idea sounded improbable, and building the design team from scratch was a crash course in scale.

Intelligent Interfaces

Co-founder & Head of Data Visualisation

Tried to build something like Jarvis for India’s big organisations. We didn’t pull it off, but it opened my eyes to what’s possible when you let yourself imagine a little beyond what’s practical.

Housing.com

VP, Design

That year at Housing was short and chaotic. Designing how people search for homes taught me more about human behavior than any formal study could have, especially in how much emotion sits under a “rational” purchase.

Fusion Charts

Head of Design

Learned how to make data less boring. A lot of it was about turning stiff dashboards into something you’d actually want to look at, which ended up becoming the base layer for how I think about information.

My first proper design job. Built apps, made plenty of mistakes, and got to see what it takes to keep improving the same product over and over instead of chasing new ideas.

Hobbies

I've loved drawing, playing music, collecting photograph cut-outs, reading, and many more since my childhood. Luckily I still continue with some.

I play drums. Not performances but low-key, at home with my Roland electronic drum kit.

I love sketching, drawing, and painting. I paint with acrylic and primarily for keeping our home walls beautiful. I sketch and draw doodles, product ideas and concepts. I feel lucky that I get to sketch real products for my work.

I love to play board games. My wife and I play Azul or Chinese Checkers on many nights before hitting the bed. And it's our favourite activity when friends are over.

I also loved playing strategy and racing video games. However, I don't get to my Playstations a lot. I will get to it soon.

I love writing in general. Journals to answer deep or complicated questions, take decisions, or even documenting my learnings privately and publicly on this website.

I love creating photo/scrapbooks. I take a lot of cut-outs from magazines, publications and create physical mood boards and collectibles like Travel in India, Colour references, Chair designs, and so on.

I love reading books to learn new things and apply them. So I have a huge library at home. I haven't read 50% of the books but it's a reminder of how much I'm yet to learn. I also like reading fiction for good stories.

I love documenting and keep experimenting with my website, social media to create a high-shelf-life place to document my life and interests.
